TIDA-00730: About surge testing in reference design

Hi:

     In the reference design, TVS CDSOT23-SM712 was used to suppress 1kV inrush current and passed the test. Who knows what the surge current is during the surge test? The picture shows the circuit being tested in the reference design.

According to the IEC 61000-4-5 Table A.2, the 1kV surge injection is related to 25A peak current.

It seems that 10/700μs combined wave transmitter is used here for surge test, but for CDSOT23-SM712 component, its maximum surge current is 17A (in the case of 8/20μs), if the surge current is 25A, Then the maximum peak current that TVS needs to withstand (in the case of 8/20μs) is about 25×17.5=437.5A (according to theory, 10/350μs and 8/20μs under the same lightning current, the ratio of 10/350μs and 8/20μs lightning joule energy is 17.5:1), Obviously, it far exceeds the current that CDSOT23-SM712 can withstand, but why can it also withstand 1kV surges?
